- “Promise and the Monster” è il titolo di un libro per bambini. Protagonisti della storia un pony chiamato Promessa e un mostro chiamato, appunto, Mostro. Storia di amicizia e di libertà. Perchè hai scelto questo pseudonimo?

- E’ un contrasto tra luce ed oscurità. Infatti non ho letto il libro ma mi piace il nome appunto perché mette insieme due cose diverse, ma relazionate. Speranza e Disperazione. Tutti sognano qualcosa e può essere infranto in un istante. Questo è Promise and the Monster.

- Perchè hai chiamato il disco “Transparent Knives” (qui la recensione di “Transparent Knives“)?

- Si chiama “Transparent Knives” perché ho voluto di nuovo creare un contrasto. Mi piacciono quei piccoli momenti di tensione dove tutto si scontra e farne un immagine. Ho voluto che ogni canzone nell’album fosse come un coltello trasparente. Affilato ma morbido, sinistro ma luccicante. Ho preso la frase da una canzone che non è finita sull’album che dice: “minerali si sublimano come un coltello trasparente nell’aria”.

- Durante la fase di realizzazione dell’album, quali sono state le tue influenze? Io ho pensato a Nico, a Nick Drake…

- Sono molto contento dal fatto che hai immaginato Nico. Ero quasi ossessionato da lei per un periodo. Il suo stile di voce era ossessionante, e alla fine quasi grottesco. Amo la sua voce e la sua musica. Era una persona così distrutta. Ma quando ho fatto l’album ero più fissato con la musica ambient ed acustica e la musica slowcore degli anni ’90 e simili. Ho ascoltato Colleen, Low, Ride, Cocteau twins e un po’ di lo-fi svedese oscuro seduto a casa col mio registratore creando canzoni.

- Com’è stato aprire i concerti di Josè Gonzalez?

- Aprire per José Gonzalez fu terrificante ma magnifico. E’ una persona così dolce. Era seduto nel tour bus leggendo il National Geographic e parlando di questioni ambientali. Era un geologo prima d’essere una pop star. I suo fan erano dieci volte più dei miei soliti, alcuni spettacoli sono andati veramente bene. Immagino che nessuno è andato veramente male. Dopo aver suonato difronte a tremila persone niente è poi così spaventoso.

- Stai scrivendo del nuovo materiale?

- Sì, sto scrivendo del nuovo materiale. Forse comincerò a registrare a dicembre. Al momento sono piuttosto occupata, studio le estetiche musicali nel XVII Secolo, musica da film, lavoro in un negozio di moda per donne “mature” e cerco di tenermi in contatto con le persone care. Anche se cominciano a prudermi le dita.

- “Promise and the Moster” Is the title of a children’s book. A pony called Promise and a monster called Monster are the protagonists of this story. A story about feedom and friendship. Why have you chosen this pseudonym?

- It contrasts brightness and darkness. I have in fact not read the book, but I like the name since it connect two different but related things: hope and despair. All people dream of something but it can get smashed in a second. thats Promise and the Monster.

- Why is the album called “Transparent Knives”?

- It is called “Transparent Knives” because again I wanted to make a contrast. I’m interested in the small tense moments when stuff collide and make a strong image. I wanted to make every song in the album like a transparent knife. Sharp but soft, sinister but bright. I took the phrase from a song that I did’nt use in the final album. It goes: “minerals they deeply vaporise like a transparent knife through the air”.

- During the recording of the album, which were your main influences? I can think of Nick Drake, to Nico…

- I’m really really happy that you mension Nico when guessing influences. I was almost obsessed with her for a while. Her singing style was haunting, and at the end almost grotesque. I love her voice and her music too. She was such a broken person. But when I made the album I think a was more into ambient acoustic music and 90’s slowcore and similar. I listened to Colleen, Low, Ride, Cocteau twins and some quite obscure swedish lo-fi sitting-at-home-with-my-recorder-making-songs-music.

- What was opening for Josè Gonzales like?

- Opening for José Gonzalez was terrifying but wonderful. he is a really sweet person. He was sitting in the tour bus reading National Geographic and talking about environmental stuff. He was a geologist before he was a pop star you know. audiences were ten times bigger than my usual ones, some shows went really well. I guess actually that none went really bad. After playing yourself in front of three thousand people nothing really gets scary anymore. That’s a major plus.

- Are you writing some new material?

- Yes. i am writing some new material. maybe I will start record in december. Right now I’m rather busy though, studying music aesthetics in the 17th century, film music. working at a fashion store for “mature” women and trying to keep in contact with people I know. It is starting to itch in my fingers though.
